So how does Big Bob do it? How are our prices so low?
Most carpet stores sell you a house full of carpet by showing you a bunch of 3"x3" samples. And some of the stores are so nice, they'll even show you 18"x24" or 27"x54" samples. And out of all of these samples, you'll find one you really like.
So what happens when the carpet that gets installed in your house is different from what you have chosen? Some stores would say, "Oops," or maybe even "Sorry." Then you either have to fight with them or renegotiate the deal with them. Or if you're really lucky, the store will have a "no questions asked" policy — that's where the store agrees to fix the problem, but you just can't ask them when they'll fix it! (Of course, these examples are not A&M)
Big Bob's gets carpet mill run trials and roll ends straight from the manufacturer before the other stores even touch it. But yes, sometimes we get the carpet, what we call "seconds," from the other stores.
Seconds are still good carpet. It just may have a streak in it that makes it cost about 20¢ on the dollar. If the carpet has one or two spots on it, (that can be concealed in your big huge house) then maybe it will cost 50¢ on the dollar. But what if it's only flaw is that it didn't match a 3"x3" sample that someone else originally wanted? Well, the carpet is still thick and beautiful, and is still worth dollar for dollar. And you can get that carpet at Big Bob's for just 20¢ to 70¢ on the dollar!
"Still," you ask, "How can Big Bob's offer carpet at such low prices like that?" Well, the manufacturer didn't know that there was a streak or a spot in the carpet, and they didn't know that it simply didn't match someone's sample quite right. At Big Bob's, we don't view those items as a loss, because it is still good carpet. So all of the Big Bob's New & Used Carpet stores in the United States (and there are several of us!) get together and buy all of it.
So how will you know what you're buying? At Big Bob's, we roll out every piece of carpet that you want to buy and let you check it out. If you don't like it, we'll just keep rolling out more until you find the most satisfactory carpet for you. And once you've bought it, you've bought it. That's how Big Bob's does it!
